Daily Note

(DAY 1302) Rooftop Gardens in Japan

Quick Context

In one line

Rooftop gardens in Tokyo and Osaka showed how large buildings can create pleasant spaces for people to spend time.

Daily Note

Malls and other large buildings in Japan can have surprisingly nice rooftop gardens.

During our time across Tokyo and Osaka, we came across several pretty and extremely well-maintained rooftop spaces. Some included a small football or sports area, while also having pleasant places to sit or walk.

What stood out was that the rooftop was not treated merely as unused infrastructure. It became another small public or semi-public space where people could spend time.

It would be nice to see more of this in Indian cities. Perhaps India will have more such spaces in the future.
