Today showed us two very different sides of Tokyo.
We visited Senso-ji temple and later explored Akihabara. The contrast between the two places was striking without feeling forced. One offered the experience of a temple; the other was full of anime, manga, gaming, and electronics culture.
Tokyo can hold these different worlds close to each other. You can spend part of the day in a setting shaped by history and tradition, then move into streets shaped by contemporary entertainment and technology.
Akihabara had its own unmistakable identity. It was not just another shopping area. The anime, manga, gaming, and electronics culture shaped the entire experience of being there.
Senso-ji and Akihabara were a useful reminder that Tokyo is not one thing. It is a collection of very different experiences connected by an extraordinary city.
