Meta AI’s connection to Instagram Reels points to a useful way of making short-form travel content searchable.
Meta AI inside WhatsApp has an interesting advantage for travel research: its connection to the Meta and Instagram ecosystem can make Instagram Reels useful as a travel-information source in a way ChatGPT currently does not handle as well, at least in my experience.
The kind of request I find useful is something like this:
Create a similar pre-trip list for this Japan itinerary, but include only Instagram videos/Reels relevant to each day’s destinations, food, attractions, logistics, and practical travel tips. Prioritize genuinely useful, recent content from locals or credible Japan travel creators, mark the best ones ⭐, and include the Reel title/topic, creator, Instagram link, and a one-line “Why”.
The important idea is not just finding more videos. It is making the useful parts of short-form content searchable and structured around a specific trip.
A lot of travel knowledge now exists inside social content. It may be a quick look at a street, a practical train tip, a food recommendation, or an explanation of how to reach an attraction. This information can be valuable, but it is often difficult to search systematically.
AI could help connect that content to the right day, destination, and question. That would make travel research more visual and more grounded in the kinds of details people discover while scrolling.
Useful travel knowledge is increasingly scattered across short videos. Making it easier to find and organize will change how we plan.
