Of all the countries I have visited, Japan is probably the only one I know of with multiple active and genuinely helpful Discord communities for travellers.
People share their experiences, travellers help each other, and locals participate as well. That combination makes the conversations much more useful than a simple list of recommendations.
What I find particularly interesting is that these communities do not feel overly promotional. People are usually trying to answer a real question, share something they learned, or help someone avoid a small mistake. The information feels lived-in.
