Spent a quiet birthday in Goa with family and came away impressed by how far the food and restaurant scene has evolved.
Had a quiet birthday in Goa with family today, which felt exactly right. No big plan, no elaborate celebration, just the comfort of being in a relaxed place with the people who matter most. Sometimes that is the best kind of birthday.
What stood out just as much as the beachside atmosphere was how much Goa’s food and restaurant scene has evolved. There are genuinely excellent places now, spots that feel polished, distinctive, and globally benchmarked rather than just good by holiday standards. Restaurants like Grumps, Second House, and several others make the culinary side of Goa feel much stronger than it did years ago.
If I had to place it in India’s food landscape, Goa now feels probably second only to Mumbai in terms of the quality and range of restaurants you can access while still being in a leisure destination. That combination is rare. You get the relaxed pace of a holiday town, but with food that can be genuinely world class.
