(DAY 1190) Information Gain as a Content Metric

Quick Context

In one line

Information gain is one of the strongest ways to judge content because real value comes from new facts, sharper insights, and better debates.

Learning Log

Information gain is one of the strongest metrics for judging content. Whether the format is written, visual, or conversational, the question is simple: did this piece actually add something new to my understanding?

That gain can come from multiple layers. It can come from fresh facts, from better framing around existing facts, from conjectures that open new mental models, or from debates that force you to examine what you thought you already knew.

This is also why so much content feels empty. It may be polished, well designed, and widely distributed, but if it adds no real information gain, it disappears from memory quickly. The best content changes your map of the world, even if only by a few degrees.
