(DAY 294) Cavus Foot and its Impact on Runners

Daily Note

I visited a foot-analysis store and got different results on two scans. I wondered whether I might have a high arch, sometimes called cavus foot, and what that could mean for running.

My Visit to Teknofeet at Airia Mall

At Teknofeet in Airia Mall on Sohna Road, I had my feet scanned. Two consecutive scans gave different results, so I was unsure whether I had a borderline high arch.

Understanding Cavus Foot and its Impact on Running

Cavus foot describes a foot with a higher-than-usual arch. A store scan alone cannot establish a diagnosis, and my results differed between runs.

Three Distinct Considerations for Runners with High Arches

1. Reduced Shock Absorption

Some sources associate a high arch with less shock absorption. The relationship between foot shape, footwear, and running comfort varies by person.

2. Instability and Balance Challenges

Some runners with high arches report stability or balance issues. Exercises cannot be assumed to prevent ankle sprains for everyone.

3. Customized Footwear Requirements

Footwear needs vary. Some runners may find supportive shoes or insoles helpful, but a high arch does not automatically mean that custom orthotics are needed.

The scans made me curious about my foot shape, but they did not give me a clear answer.
